LA PRIEST
Fase Luna (Domino)
Sam Eastgate, the mastermind behind psych-pop project LA Priest, continues his flair for beachy, wobbly tunes throughout new album Fase Luna. The record is inspired by his recent time living in Mexico, and it’s not hard to see where sun-drenched landscapes of the country have influenced his sound.
Unlike his previous albums, Fase Luna is stripped back, with not much more than his guitar and vocals. This certainly isn’t a fault though, with equally catchy tunes like Silent, before the upbeat It’s You reminds of Mac Demarco. Sail On is a junglescape track filled with diverse sections and even singing in Spanish.
In total, Fase Luna is an auditory analogue of heat-haze in a tropical country, with matching squiggly riffs and warm melodies that blend easily into each other during each change of song throughout – inviting you to lose yourself like a mirage in the desert.
