Fu##in Up (Reprise)

New Neil Young live album Fu##in Up was recorded at a secret show in November 2023, which itself saw Neil Young & Crazy Horse play the near-entirety of their 1990 album Ragged Glory. At the time, Ragged Glory was hailed as a return to form after Young’s genre wanderings in the 1980s (synth-pop! Rockabilly! Traditional country!) – and ironically, as great as the results were, all of its songs found their best renditions on the numerous live albums, archival or otherwise, that Young has continually released since.

This is thanks in no small part to their sprawling open chords and noisy, scrappy, feedback-smothered solos, ideal for the rusty tractor with a broken steering wheel that is Crazy Horse. And so it is: if you wanted a version of Ragged Glory that’s even wilder, sloppier and scuzzier than the studio version, well here it is, even if it’s for fans only.
