DRAIN
Living Proof (Epitaph)
Of all the bands that have emerged from the hardcore scene in the last 10 years, Drain seem to be one of the more unfiltered and honest, retaining the movement’s aesthetics and ethics while giving it all a modern makeover. That’s not to say the Santa Cruz, California band haven’t put the work in. Emerging from a DIY scene is no mean feat, but their blend of old-school hardcore, punk and thrash metal has gotten them over with hardcore fans old and new alike.
If you said that new album Living Proof sounds like Suicidal Tendencies meets fellow West Coast icons Terror, then you wouldn’t be far wrong, but the inclusion of a clean-vocalled cover of the Descendents’ Good Good Things, as well as a hip-hop intermission, proves that Drain can do whatever the hell they want and it’s guaranteed to be a cut above the rest.
