10 Tracks To Echo In The Dark (Lonely Cat/AWAL)

Sixteen years after the release of debut album Inside In/Inside Out, English indie band The Kooks are back with an album that brings a 70s feel to their music with increased use of funky basslines. 10 Tracks Echo In The Dark differs from the band’s typical sound, with use of synths relatively unheard in previous Kooks releases – but this is a valuable addition that refreshes their music.

10 Tracks Echo In The Dark itself has a rather nostalgic feel, with Cold Heart taking the listener back to 2006 as they split the song into synths and acoustics. The Kooks have largely moved away from traditionally acoustic instruments in this album, but still keep to their fundamentals – 25 is another fine example of this blend. Concluding this new release is Without A Doubt, a gorgeous end to an album that will undoubtedly be a hit with Kooks fans old and new, as well as a festival favourite.
