Ever fancied trying a new, and more importantly, slightly odd sport? Well this may be for you! Stone skimming is a game we’re likely all familiar with, and for the majority of us, it’s little more than a beach pastime. However it has now been developed into a rather competitive sport with the win being classified by the distance achieved by the stone. The sport has previously been limited to certain areas due to legal issues regarding the removal of stones, however this problem has now been resolved by using reconstituted stones, and the sport has taken hold in Wales. These stones come in a variety of shapes to suit abilities; the event also provides different categories to give everybody a chance to win. The ‘stoned’ (ahem) category is open for those who have previously won a stone skimming competition, whilst ‘stoneless’ is open for beginners, with entry applications available online.
Stoneskimming Championships, Llanwrtyd Wells, Sun 29 May. Entry Fee: £5.
