Guy Manning presents his Postcards from Pembrokeshire project. The aim of his project is to create a painting every day for a whole year, 6″x4″ in the same style of a postcard, combining homemade paints made by him from Pembrokeshire soil. The paintings themselves are then finished with Michael Harding oil paints which also made in Wales.
On his website, Guy provides a blog for all his paintings in this project and other works too. The blog includes a variety of oil paintings of the breath taking Pembrokeshire scenery along with more detailed pieces on individual objects too. Once the year long project is complete both in work and online, Guy wishes to put all the paintings into a book alongside the daily blog text he originally published them online with.
The paintings reflect his life in west Wales including failures in the greenhouse; a bit of cooking, a bit of travelling hence paintings on the websites such as Three Duck Eggs, The Caldey Punt, and Across the Hayfield.
Guy makes a living with a little teaching and as an artist selling affordable paintings; inspired by Julian Merrow-Smith’s Postcards from Provence, he has adapted his own informal ‘mini-Mannings’ paintings to a regular-ish format.
Each Postcard is painted on little canvas-boards that are also homemade and measures approx. 6”x4” or 10.5cm x 15.5cm in new money. The postcard style canvas paintings can also be purchased as small oil paintings online from Guy Manning’s website.
