LOVE YOUR CLOTHES CARDIFF
Various locations, Cardiff, Mon 24-Sat 29 Oct
Tickets: free. Info: www.loveyourclothes.org.uk
Love Your Clothes, a consumer campaign concerned with the negative impact clothes disposal has on the environment, encourages the public to refashion and alter their already worn clothes in order to keep clothing out of the bin. This month, Love Your Clothes Cardiff host a series of free interactive workshops, teaming up with Green City Events and Cardiff Fashion Week to teach and inspire consumers to rework, upcycle and fix unworn garments.
Contribute unloved items to Plasnewydd Community Centre from 5-7.30pm during the week; in exchange, you’ll receive a token for the Love Your Clothes Swap Shop, on Sat 29 Oct. Prior to this, each day features a workshop focusing on working a different item of clothing. On Tue 25, transform trousers at Plasnewydd Community Centre; create funky pockets in the same location on Wed 26. On the same day, Fashion Design students and experts offer their help in what will be called the Sewathon, held in the Castle Emporium. Here, donated clothing will be refashioned to then be resold by Oxfam next summer at music events such as Glastonbury. At the Pelican Nursery on Thurs 27, Julia and Sarah from the Sustainable Studio give advice on how to get creative with an old shirt, allowing one to transform and customise.
The week closes with tea and cake at the Swap Shop on Sat 29, again at Plasnewydd Community Centre, where some of the upcycled clothes will be showcased. It’s not necessary to have experience in sewing, and while every workshop is free, booking is advised. This exciting week is not to be missed by fashion lovers.
