LIAM GALLAGHER JOHN SQUIRE
Liam Gallagher John Squire (Warner Music)
One bitterly cold evening in November 1988, 16-year-old Liam Gallagher accompanied his older brother Noel to a Stone Roses gig in Manchester. The event, described by Liam as “life changing”, ended up being the catalyst for him to form his own rock band shortly after. And in a full-circle twist that would surely have young Liam showcasing his disbelief in his trademark expletive-laden manner, Roses guitar maestro John Squire has joined forces with the now-51-year-old Gallagher to produce an incredible new album.
While the announcement of the collaboration seemed to come from leftfield, due in part to the consistent success of Liam’s solo ventures, the result is exactly what we would’ve expected: an album of well-crafted pop tunes that feature Squire effortlessly weaving his own musical narrative around Gallagher’s familiar rock’n’roll snarl. Delivering what’s expected is no bad thing, however. This is a convergence of two standout talents of their genre crafting a musical storyline that stretches across decades, and will no doubt resonate with lovers of British rock across the globe.
