SHED SEVEN
A Matter Of Time (Cooking Vinyl)
Over 30 years since their inception in York, Shed Seven are making a strong case for their place this century with new album, A Matter Of Time. Finding inspiration after revisiting their favourite teenage 80s alternative albums, this new offering is strikingly immediate, accessible and fun. The frantic pace of opener Let’s Go immediately sets the scene for a brash, hook-laden affair, nothing short of upbeat.
I particularly enjoyed the album’s guest spots, Rowetta and Lauren McClure, the latter forging a perfect harmony alongside frontman Rick Witter on acoustic-led, heart-on-sleeve love song Tripping With You. It seems almost a shame to release this in the thick of winter as the effortlessly sunshiny Kissing California is sure to remain in heavy rotation on summer holidays: “All dressed up and everywhere to go now…” As A Matter Of Time is only their second album in 22 years, fans will at long last be satisfied with the latest Shed Seven anthems.
