WELSH CURRY WINNER | NEWS
After months of searching the Welsh Curry House Of Year Award 2014 has finally been bestowed, and the winner is…. Tŷ Asha Balti in Llanrwst, North Wales. This is the second time that the restaurant has reached the finals but this year their efforts have won them the ultimate curry title.
The prize-winner was revealed but TV Weather woman Sian Lloyd during the spicy awards ceremony, at The Vale Resort & Hotel in Cardiff, last night.
To win the prize Tŷ Asha Balti had to create a brand new recipe out of Welsh lamb, and the judges were blown away by the dish: “The whole leg of lamb was presented and carved at the table, offering a unique opportunity to combine the sweet taste of the lamb with authentic Indian spices in a traditional roasted dish” explains Niaz Taj, the Welsh Curry House Awards’ producer.
Among the judges was Chef Anand George of the Purple Poppadom (awarded Welsh Curry House Of The Year 2012), former welsh rugby player Rupert Moon, Nerys Howell of Howell Food Consultancy, the Festival Company’s Berwyn Rowlands and, of course, our very own Emma Clark – owner and creator of Buzz Magazine.
Another winner of the night was Stephen Gomes, from Moksh Indian restaurant in Cardiff Bay, who won The Gold Star Welsh Curry Chef Of The Year 2014.
Competition for the prize was as hot as ever this year and, as there are over 350 Indian restaurants in the country, making a choice was a tough call. Just getting to the shortlist, let alone winning, is a great achievement. If you fancy heading to a very good welsh curry house head to Tŷ Asha Balti, Moskh or Sheesh Mahal in Llanelli (the awards’ Mid and West Wales winner).
