We speak with Cardiff games developer Ross MacOmish about his latest game, Hold the Line.
Could you describe the premise behind Hold the Line?
Space has always fascinated me and I wanted to make a game that was a crazy, fun representation of something quite dark.
What do you think sets it apart?
The fact that we’re essentially providing two games in one sets it apart from a lot of other mobile games.
What inspired you to create it?
Ever since I was young I’ve always enjoyed battle (as most boys do). When I wasn’t fighting with sticks with my brothers, I would draw warriors and weapons, and soon started drawing my own battle scenes. They started off as stick figures on 2D backgrounds but I always wished I could animate them.
How did you come up with the artwork?
I knew I needed to come up with some designs that were pleasing to the eye, yet quick to produce, as I knew I would be doing this all by myself. I actually designed the whole game and did all the animations using my trackpad in Photoshop, so everything you see was done by my fingers. I’ve always loved more stylised graphics in my games.
Are you working on any other projects?
I am currently working on a spaceship battle game.
How did you get started in developing the game?
I was approached by Studio Nesh who knew I studied game design at University. They wanted to know if i could make them mobile games and I said I would love to try.
Hold the Line is available on the iTunes App Store.
