THE PRETTY RECKLESS
Other Worlds (Century Media)
The Pretty Reckless have impacted the modern rock industry for nearly 15 years now, yet seem to be constantly shifting and evolving. For this reviewer, Taylor Momsen’s seductive yet raspy voice has hypnotised me ever since hearing 2016’s Take Me Down on the radio. Latest release Other Worlds sees the band strip down and reveal acoustic recordings, surprising covers and other reimaginings sure to please fans.
Following on from their previous album, 2021’s Death By Rock And Roll, The Pretty Reckless had a tough one to follow; I still find myself listening to its Got So High, so renditions of that song to both open and close the album were a great surprise. With the added emotion in David Bowie’s Quicksand, all the way down to the bluesy Harley Darling, this is a charming and unique piece, offering a side of the band fans may not have seen before.
