THE BODY & DIS FIG
Orchards Of A Futile Heaven (Thrill Jockey)
American metal/noise duo The Body have added another collaborator to their catalogue, with this effort pairing them with avant-electronic artist Dis Fig, aka Felicia Chen – no stranger to collaboration either having already recorded an album with The Bug exploring similar sonic depths.
Both artists refuse to be pigeonholed with roots in both electronic and metal sounds, and Orchards Of A Futile Heaven brings a sense of crushing heaviness and weight without the chains of analogue percussion and traditionally distorted guitars.
RELATED:
Chen’s voice is at turns beautiful and agonised, surrounded by droning synths, washes of heavily processed guitars used texturally, and Chip King’s signature tortured wails interjecting occasionally to add another layer of sound. Both The Body and Dis Fig bring an overwhelming sense of sorrow, and a disregard for genre expectations, to create this densely layered and untraditionally crushing collection of songs that demonstrate more similarities than differences between both camps.
