SNAKES!
National Museum Cardiff
Sat 22 June-Sun 15 Sept
Did you know that there are more than 3,000 known species of snakes on the planet? Out of those species, around 600 are venomous, but only around 200 of them are able to kill or significantly harm a human. Additionally, snakes can’t bite food so they have to swallow it whole and thanks to their flexible jaws and unique anatomy, they can actually eat prey bigger than their head! These are just some of facts we expect that you’ll learn when the family-friendly Snakes exhibition slithers its way to Cardiff’s National Museum this summer.
Created by Blue Tokay, with additional content from the Museum’s natural sciences collections and supported by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, Snakes is a touring exhibition which will educate and fascinate snake lovers of all ages. A Burmese python skeleton, preserved snakes and award-winning photographs of snakes from all around the world will be on display at the museum, whilst you will also get the chance to face your fears by meeting with live specimens such as a boa constrictor and a royal python. Don’t worry, they’re not poisonous but it’s probably best if you don’t hiss them off!
The educational exhibition is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the extraordinary creatures and their habitat. The importance of conservation will be discussed, whilst you will also count your blessings as you hear about what life is like in countries where they encounter deadly snakes on a daily basis (actual venomous snakes that can kill, not just snakey people). After learning about the captivating creatures, why not test your knowledge with some snake puzzles and quizzes? You can also find out the answer to the age-old question of what snake weight you are, and check out the fun interactive displays on offer. There’s no doubt that this exhibition will make you feel like the greatest Snake Master in hiss-tory…
