DIRTY PROTEST PRESENTS…SCANDAL
Milgi’s Yurt, Cardiff
Thurs 18 Aug
If the news over the last month or so has taught us anything, it’s that we love a good scandal. We take a pinch of pleasure from looking at images of guilty redheads, we celebrate when grovelling letters are released from those at the very top and we quite enjoy putting on a show of gleeful alarm when the rest of the world finally catch on to what we’ve known all along. The scandalmonger is scandalised and, as layers of guilty indulgence and revelation mount high, headlines are quickly made.
The reaction is the same whether the story focuses on a cheating footballer, recent wiki-leak or dishonest politician. Of course, the moral corruption always makes us sick to our selfless stomachs but the smug knowledge that someone else is in the wrong makes us smirk like we did when our siblings were blamed for the trouble we’d caused.
Scandal is a fitting theme for Cardiff-based Dirty Protest who, in their four years on the scene, have never been ones to retire from a juicy topic. Don’t tell anyone I told you, but their latest night will see established writers Katherine Chandler, Sian Owen, Foster Marks, Lisa Parry and Aled Roberts join a scriptwriting ‘cherrypopper’ whose identity is yet to be disclosed. A source has also revealed Matthew Bulgo will join the company’s core team as a full-time director to bring these scandalous plays firmly into the light. Tickets: £3.
