A powerful multi-dimensional novel spanning different continents and timelines, Cole Haddon’s Psalms For The End Of The World is an intelligent and imaginative read. The adventure begins in 1962 with the protagonist Robert Jones, a seemingly ordinary man living in America. When the FBI arrive at the diner he’s visiting and accuse him of an act of terrorism, a chain of events begins with a race through time to try and reveal the origin of the accusation with Grace, whom he met working at the diner.
Taking us on a lightning-speed tour through time, various threads of the story take place in the past, present and future. The highlight of these snapshots through different timezones are the characters, whose lives during different spheres are weaved throughout, and provide an authentic connection to anchor their journey.
It’s difficult to imagine how much planning was involved in the making of this book, but its unique formula offers so much for the reader to think about. Despite the complex nature of keeping track of so many different characters and dimensions, the narrative is very authentic, a mix of contemporary and science fiction drawing you into the lives of the characters.
