Celebrating the forthcoming release of Radlands, their fourth album, Mystery Jets are stepping out this spring to tour the UK for the first time in a year and a half.
Radlands was co-produced by Mystery Jets and Dan Carey – who also produced the likes of Hot Chip and Franz Ferdinand – and the album will be released via Rough Trade Records on the 30 Apr.
Having spent a lot of last year out in Austin, Texas, recording the album, the band is excited to play a string of intimate gigs. Choosing to perform in small bars, clubs and venues, the band aim to premiere the stories and sounds of the record as they intended them to be heard.
The band’s first three albums were entirely conceived and recorded in London, so expect to hear some new influences and styles on the new record. Lead singer Blaine Harrison recently explained that the band went out to Texas with a handful of songs, but one song in particular captured the spirit of why they had gone there. It was called Radlands, inspired by a fusion of the 1970s Terrence Malick film Badlands, and Keith Richard’s Sussex Estate, Redlands. The quartet also named their studio Radlands; a big old wooden house on the banks of the Colorado River.
Mystery Jets will be performing at The Gate, Roath on Wed 11 Apr. Tickets: £12.50. Info: 029 2048 3344 / www.thegate.org.uk
