MELTING POINT
Craft In The Bay, Cardiff Bay
Until Sun 29 Apr
Have you ever been intrigued by the craft and finesse of artistic metalwork? Craft in the Bay are showcasing their current exhibition Melting Point, displaying a range of contemporary metal artwork and stunning handmade jewellery crafted by over 20 artists, with masterclasses dotted throughout its run. The curators of the exhibition, Beate Gegenwart and Matthew Tomalin, will be covering Craft in the Bay with a variety of dramatic, bold and delicate metalwork, natively crafted by themselves and metalwork artisans such as Dail Behennah, Ane Christensen and Kevin Gray.
Metalwork has been a fixation of craftspeople for much of human history, with the energy and finesse required to make such finely-tuned pieces ensuring it has been the domain of those with sleight of hand for many centuries. The hand-crafted jewellery displayed at the exhibition excels in beauty and transcendence, working in new visions of style and texture, all made with minute attention to detail. On display will be treasures made by artists such as Jane Adam, Charlotte Tracy and Kayo Saito. The collection aims to push materials to their limits, finding the right balance between irregularity as well as grace. Right in the heart of Cardiff Bay, this exhibition will be perfect for those who love all things bizarre.
