Sherman Theatre, Cardiff
Tues 15 – Sat 19 Nov
Love stories have been told since the beginning of time. Often a boy and girl fall in love and the problems of life try to separate them from each other. However not many love stories have included taxidermy.
This is not a typical ‘boy meets girl’ theatre production. When you are the son of a Polish taxidermist and a daughter of an ice cream salesman, of course your first date would be somewhere as unconventional as Tesco.
Although meeting in a medical research facility in Merthyr Tydfil may be a unique and questionable start to an obscure and hilarious romance, their journey to love stalls as their parents’ jobs begin to fail and the threat of a prison sentence intrudes on their love story.
With amazingly funny writing, such as characters like Valentine’s Mum who always recommends the calming influence of milk on the basis that “you never see a cow suffering a panic attack”, why miss out of the brilliant everyday comedy of Love Lies and Taxidermy.
For only five days this November, watch this couple who battle their parent’s self-destructive tendencies in a witty, offbeat and highly original love story. (MM)
