LAURA JANE GRACE
Hole In My Head (Big Scary Monsters)
With Floridian punk favourites Against Me!, currently on indefinite hiatus, the band’s founder and vocalist Laura Jane Grace continues to pump out catchy, soul-bearing music with a sincerity that truly opens up Grace’s world to the listener. The album’s title track Hole In My Head is probably the nearest it gets to an Against Me! track, a pacey riff complimenting Grace’s soaring vocal as she describes her thought process, as a prominent member of the trans community, when it came to shaving her head recently.
I’m Not A Cop swings like Elvis’ pelvis as classic Eddie Cochran-style rock’n’roll guitar accompanies a savage personal examination, while tracks like Punk Rock In Basements is a rose-tinted journey through her formative years. As Grace veers between regret and happiness, her journal-like approach to songwriting is her superpower and marks her out as one of modern punk’s foremost poets. It’s Laura Jane Grace’s world and we’re all invited to have a peek in via Hole In My Head.
