Last Night Of The Welsh Proms rounds off a fantastic eight days of live concerts this Saturday. Owain Arwel Hughes is to conduct the Orchestra Of Welsh National Opera at the event that will be taking place in St David’s Hall. The evening is set to offer music from Shostakovich, Handel, Strauss, Elgar and Mozart. The patriotic finale, The Songs Of Wales, is arranged by Gareth Wood and guaranteed to round off the evening in passionate style.
So far this week, The Welsh Proms, now in its 26th year, has entertained over 10,000 audience members. Musical genres have included jazz, folk and world music, alongside music from Wales’ up-and-coming talent. Huge orchestral concerts saw the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra performing the very finest in classical music. Even the under fives were catered for by the daily Tiddly Prom, designed to captivate the youngest audiences with the magic of live music. With so much of the very best music being performed, it isn’t hard to see why the Cardiff Welsh Proms is considered by many to be Cardiff Festival’s greatest offering.
