JORJA SMITH
Falling Or Flying (FAMM Ent)
British singer-songwriter Jorja Smith has been on the scene for the best part of a decade yet still manages to deliver the exciting feel of an emerging talent. Emanating the spirit of a true creative that lives for the process, with songs that capture the essence of a carefully refined jam session, on Falling Or Flying the 26-year-old from Walsall sings of stepping into womanhood and becoming a recognised artist.
Go Go Go, first released in August, is the badass-boss-energy pop track of the album – one for the breakup playlist – whilst album closer What If My Heart Beats Faster? leaves you floating on a cloud of string-orchestrated bliss. With gritty Rihanna-esque tones, a production aesthetic akin to, say, Tame Impala and, on Makes Sense, a beautiful temperament familiar to Adele, Jorja Smith finds herself uniquely placed in her own multifaceted zone. Falling Or Flying is a well-crafted and richly layered body of work.
