HIS LORDSHIP
His Lordship (Psychonaut Sounds)
On stage, two-man band His Lordship have a reputation for creating a raucous and exciting sound: something like Jerry Lee Lewis fronting The Ramones, with absolutely no pussyfooting and a fistful songs depicting life’s daily grind. If live renditions of songs often pack a punch that the gentrified studio version doesn’t, here on their debut album His Lordship have managed to successfully capture and bottle up their manic live energy and let it loose on an eponymously titled debut album which is the equivalent of a selection of cherished, fast, furious, picture-sleeved, rock’n’roll-infused 45s.
All Cranked Up or Buzzkill are stone cold killers and there’s also topicality in Jackie Works For The NHS. It might come as no surprise that James Walbourne – Chrissie Hynde’s sidekick in The Pretenders – is on both mic and guitar, while behind the drumkit is Kristoffer Sonne, who has also worked with Hynde. His Lordship are not to be missed.
