Food **** Atmosphere ****
Starting out as a small pop-up night dotted around a few Cardiff pubs, Greazy Vegan has gained the reputation of serving up some marvellously dirty vegan fast food. Off the back of this popularity, they have been able to open up a permanent place, right in Cardiff city centre opposite the castle. As a vegetarian I was in a state of anticipation, as I haven’t had decent fast food since I stopped eating meat – and I wasn’t disappointed.
The menu comprises a selection of junk food like burgers, wings, kebabs and dirty fries. We decided to go for the Big Moc and the Vacon Double Cheeseburger, with the Big Moc being a mind-blowing experience. I never knew how much I missed a great fast food burger. For sides we went for the Southern Fried Chickun Strips, which were deliciously crispy as we dunked them into the homemade gravy, while the dirty fries almost put us into a wonderful food coma. Overall, the food was better then I expected – Greazy Vegan definitely lives up to the hype, plus everything is really reasonably priced with most burgers going for either £5 or £8. The food comes out as fast as you would expect, with about a 10 minute wait time – perfect if you want a quick bite to eat.
You really don’t have to be vegan to enjoy a dirty junk food night at the Greazy Vegan, but for anyone that way inclined this might be the fast food nirvana you’ve been craving. JAYDON MARTIN
