Celebrating its 10th year, Glastonbarry festival, located in the heart of Barry, was yet again triumphant in 2023. With over 20 tribute acts performing across the weekend, there certainly was something for everyone. What started as an idea between two cousins, and an audience of 6,000 people, has come to be a highlight of the year for the people of Barry – and beyond – bringing families and friends together from across the globe for a weekend full of dancing, fun, food, great music and revelry.
The event was superbly executed as always, with no queuing for toilets (“hurrah!” I hear everyone shout) and an array of delicious food stalls. Yes there was torch lit, drunken anthemic choruses, and – of course – there was rain, but that didn’t dampen the 7000-strong crowd’s joyful spirits.
The festival opened with an outstanding performance from local band The Hindenbergs, an authentic nod to Led Zeppelin, and closed with firm favourites Flash, a Queen homage. A particular highlight for me was the deafening sound from the packed big top as its occupants rebelliously sang Delilah with the great Tom Jones, aka Dean Jones.
Well done to Matt and all of the Glastonbarry 2023 team on another successful year, and having that vision a decade ago – keep doing what you’re doing, it certainly works!
