Amy-Anne Williams speaks with actress Georgia May Foote about her role in the New Theatre’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
“Marvel,” said Georgia May Foote. “That’s my dream. I want to carry on acting and hopefully not stop – and then, I want to act in a Marvel movie”.
Headstrong Georgia, actress in family-favourite TV shows such as Grange Hill, Emmerdale and Coronation Street, and Strictly Come Dancing runner-up, spoke about her life, and namely, the fact that she is now starring in theatre production Breakfast at Tiffany’s. “I’m playing Holly Golighty,” she said. “And I’ve loved every minute of it.”
“Holly is such a good and fun character to play, which is completely different to the TV character I’m currently playing in Trollied – also named Holly, funnily enough. The Trollied Holly is a bit crazy with the situations she’s put in, whilst Holly Golighty knows exactly what to do with her problems, so one of them’s out of control whilst the other is very much in control.
“I did Strictly Come Dancing prior and it’s kind of given me the bug to perform in front of people and try a little theatre, which I absolutely love – I mean, I’m going into the Rocky Horror stage show right after. But then, I don’t think I’d stop doing TV shows completely as that’s where my heart’s at, where I’ve grown up, and it’d be a bit strange to kind of not do any more of that.”
What about being a panellist on shows such as Celebrity Juice and Loose Women? “I loved that too. It’s such a change from playing a character, so I get to show off who I really am. It’s nice to do that, to be your own person rather than acting and not playing yourself.”
I asked Georgia about how she got to where she is today, to which she replied, “Hard work, and never giving up. I’ve always wanted to act, and started when I was nine where I really, really loved it, and just decided that I wanted to carry on. At drama school I just kind of fell into it. I haven’t really got an acting inspiration, rather, I just wanted to do what I loved, and fell in love with acting and the characters I played.
“But, oh my goodness there have been so many hurdles along the way. Acting is one of those careers where you get knocked down a lot before you get just one part, and you have to go through endless noes to finally get a yes. It can be really difficult, especially when you really, really want a part but you don’t get it, or you get the ones you don’t expect. After all this, if you want it, you don’t ever give up.
“That would be my advice to any budding young actors and actresses – never, ever give up. You have to believe you can do it to achieve it, even when you keep getting turned away. If you keep trying you will eventually get it, and everything happens for a reason. You can’t give up. You really can’t.”
