Doppler @ Level 2, Kongs, Cardiff
Fri 2 June
Think St Mary Street and what comes to mind? Pink Stetsons and ‘SCRUM AND GET ME’ t-shirts on international days? Hoards of white-shirted geezers in tan loafers and bootcut denim, oi-oi-ing their way to Fantasy Lounge? Seagulls feasting on the remains of cheese, chips and curry sauce scattered on the corner of Caroline St? We can pretty much wager that leftfield Detroit techno isn’t one of the first things that jumps into your head, but that’s what newcomers Doppler are bringing to Cardiff this June.
Following on from the success of their launch party, where they welcomed Tangible Assets man Stojche to Undertone, Doppler are packing their bags and moving the party 50 metres or so over the road to the subway-tiled environs of Level 2. It’s the new club venue attached to the arcade games-and-beers joint Kong’s and the announcement of the masked, mysterious DJ Stingray has already set tongues a-wagging amongst the fans of slightly more esoteric sounds in the city. It’s the sort of booking that was unforeseeable in Cardiff five or so years ago, but it’s testament to the great strides the capital has made that it’s happening at all.
Backing up Stingray’s onslaught of thumping 808s, acid and icy electro melodies will be residents Jessie B, Mr Ben and Mikey H, alongside the exquisitely titled Dai Murder. One to say you were there for.
Tickets: £15/£12.50. Info: [email protected] (KD)
