words: Lowri Martinson
Situated in the heart of the historic market town centre with Wales’ largest castle, the magnificent Caerphilly Castle, as its backdrop, the event has already become one of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s most popular annual events and an important date in any foodie’s calendar.
The high street will be peppered with all manner of food stalls, whilst also playing host to a banquet of entertainment for all ages. The festival promises to bring with it a blend of cultural diversity, blazing colour and animation to the town of Caerphilly. Gourmands will be in their element with cookery demonstrations, whilst children’s activities, model steam train rides, animal displays and much more besides will keep the entire family entertained.
Appealing to the glutton within you, the diverse banquet of flavours can be expected to inject the town with mouth-watering smells and sizzling sounds of pancakes and hog roasts. Last year’s event was a splendid success with thousands attending the festival in search of local Welsh produce and inside information on how to improve their own culinary skills. With a packed programme of chefs, previous demonstrators have included: A Presto, Baked By Mel, The Celt Experience, Coffee Continental, KK Ventures, Narna’s Chocolates, Plant 2 Plate, Samosaco, The Preservation Society and Yellow House Kitchen. Activities have comprised of German cake making, cheese and butter making, cake decorating, cake pops and chocolate tempering. With a wealth of activities, this year is set to be even better with the attendance of a mysterious celebrity chef, so indulge your palette with the tang, kick and punch of local Welsh produce, and enjoy the carnival environment with a gaggle of chefs and a skating tomato.
