Burnetts Hill Chapel, Martletwy, Pembrokeshire
Thurs 11 Aug
American country duo Anna And Elizabeth are set to arrive in Wales this August, bringing with them the emotion and soul that is so often synonymous with their style of old time country music. The pair have plans to tour for the majority of the remaining portion of 2016, starting with the UK, Norway and Ireland this summer. It’s going to be an important few months for the duo, as Anna And Elizabeth’s album Sun To Sun is also out this month (Fri 5 Aug, to be precise).

Their musical style could be considered marginal in the modern pop landscape, yet their performances are poignant and emotionally provocative. Their soulful close harmonies and the inclusion of moments of solo voice without accompaniment from the usual banjo, fiddle or guitar work to create a captivating performance. An interesting addition to their performances is the use of ‘crankies’ – handmade scrolling pictures which are used to enable the pair to tell the stories behind their music. When all this comes together, it’s a spectacle that very quickly draws you in and has the ability to pique the interest of even those who maintain that country music isn’t their ‘thing’.
Anna and Elizabeth’s performance, combined with the setting of Burnett Hill Chapel’s 19th century architecture, promises to be a unique take on a genre of music less appreciated than most.
