AN EVENING WITH NOEL FIELDING | LIVE REVIEW
St David’s Hall, Cardiff, Sat 22 Nov
Come on a journey through time and space and maybe madness. An Evening With Noel Fielding is a surreal, warming and psychedelic adventure into the heart of comedy.
Fielding is one of the only contemporary comedians who is actually playing with the form of the live comedy performance. Picking up the mantel from the likes of Monty Python, The Goodies and Spike Milligan, Fielding has captured a child like abundance while dancing around dark and controversial topics. What may have been lost in the first season of Luxury Comedy was turned around in the live format. The surrealist elements to the show weren’t cold at all and were tied together with a sentimental childish heart.
Like The Mighty Boosh live shows An Evening With Noel Fielding is broken up into two segments, the stand up that opens the show and then a loose narrative that ends the show. The stand up madness was a collective of idea’s swimming around in a broth of beautiful laughter. Familiar characters are cleverly woven into the narrative, with special appearances from Fantasy Man, Plasticine Joey Ramon and the hilarious Raymond Boombox.
For those who are used to seeing Noel bouncing off his Mighty Boosh partner Julian Barret, you will begin to sink into Fielding being on his own within the first ten minutes. The world Fielding creates sucks you in and by the end of the show you can’t bare to step back out into the real world.
After seeing the show all I won’t to do is strap on my gold boots, skinny jeans and cowboy hat on and go on a winter holiday in the mind on Noel Fielding.
