Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff
Thurs 18 – Sat 27 Oct
The critically acclaimed 1947 Broadway sensation, based on a true story by Arthur Miller, one of America’s most important playwrights, is still as popular today as it was 70 years hitherto. {All My Sons}, full of doubt, darkness and deceit, is a modern classic due to Miller’s ability to capture the raw and conflicting emotions of those involved, such as the main protagonist Joe Keller, who allows defective parts to be shipped to the Air Force during WWII, causing the deaths of 21 pilots, before shifting the blame to his business partner.
The original version of {All My Sons} was what established Miller’s status as a playwright, as his productions until then had been commercial failures. It has since been in almost-continuous production, including a successful West End run in 2010. The distinctly warm nature of the Royal Welsh College Of Music & Drama will no doubt compliment the underlying foundations of strong family ties in {All My Sons} as Joe Weller struggles between his desire for money he has always dreamt of and his relationship with his family – encapsulated with the famous line, “If there’s something bigger than that then I’ll put a bullet to my head”. Miller’s talent in bringing social awareness and revolt into the narrative is what still makes the play resonate today. Tickets: £6-£13. Info: 029 2039 1391 / www.rwcmd.ac.uk (ED)
