ACTION BRONSON
Cocodrillo Turbo (Loma Vista)
Following the first rap album dedicated to dolphins, the newie from Action Bronson, Cocodrillo Turbo, aims to snap pretenders in half with its hefty jaws. This burly fella, renaissance man (actor/writer/painter/rapper/chef/broadcaster) and gourmet fiend would have fellow aquaman Connan Mockasin for breakfast and still have room for dessert. Most of the rhymes on this are barely printable, even on these hallowed Buzz pages. This is one of the cleaner examples: “She like the Rihanna panties, I ordered her 50 packets…. I’m not a perv, I’m just half-Italian.”
Hound Dog features a Jean-Claude Vannier psychedelic rock riff punctuated by crocodile roars and jungle noises; Tongpo’s swampy groove evokes Screamin’ Jay Hawkins in its nutty voodoo. The electro-pimpin’ strut of Zambezi, with Roc Marciano is the most conventionally funky track here and shows how rockin’ the MC can be when he dials down the lunacy – likewise Storm Of The Century, a late-night jazzy lament with the cleansing power of the rain. Let’s hope that Action Bronson takes some soap to wash out his potty mouth next time…
