WILD CITIES | BOOK REVIEW
Ben Lerwill & Harriet Hobday (Puffin)
For a while, The Shard in London was the tallest building in Europe with its 72 floors. It must have been a real surprise when workers found a fox living on the 72nd floor. In Berlin, foxes can sometimes be seen travelling on the subway trains and wild boars roam freely in the city. It is stories like this that make the beautifully written and illustrated Wild Cities such a joy to read.
Wild Cities celebrates wildlife in inner cities in 14 different global locations including London, Warsaw, Cape Town, Singapore and New York. From skunks in New York to leopards in Mumbai, penguins in Cape Town to kestrels in Paris, otters making Singapore their home again after decades of absence, each city is given at least six pages crammed full of wildlife and interesting information. Although Wild Cities is aimed at the younger reader, it is a book that animal-loving adults can enjoy too, with many brilliant facts about the creatures that we live next to and which make our days and lives brighter.
