City Hall, Cardiff
Fri 2-Sun 4 Nov
You’ll have heard it a million times – we’re a nation of consumers. And we consume things in large volume, be it fast food, online content or mass-produced throwaway tat. How often do we consider where our purchases come from? It’s good to sometimes step back from the same old same old and take time to appreciate something with a bit of heart in it.
You might be mistaken for thinking that getting a little great art in your life is an expensive endeavour, but the Made By Hand team beg to differ. They curate the very best of British art and craftsmanship, gathering together the finest clothiers and jewellery makers you’ll find, putting them under one roof for a weekend so you can browse their wares, safe in the knowledge that you’re buying the work of an artist, not something off the high street conveyor belt that you’ve seen in a million places.
This event in the capital gives visitors an opportunity to get face to face with creators of clothes, jewellery and homewares, and interact through talks, demonstrations and workshops. Meeting your maker (in an artistic sense) can give you an insight into their craft and make any eventual choices just that little bit more special.
Admission: £7/£6 conc. (day) / £13/£11 (weekend). U18s free. Info: www.madebyhand-wales.co.uk (MH)
