EJECA | LIVE REVIEW
Sin City, Swansea, Fri 6 Oct
It is well documented that the number of successful clubs in the UK is on the decline. Sin City in Swansea is now one of the few remaining purpose-built clubs left in the city. It is run by Swansea University and has a capacity of over 700, with two large rooms and a terrace up top. Amuzon, a new house, disco and techno night, has taken up a monthly residency at the club and for their first night at the venue they brought in Northern Ireland’s Ejeca, aka Garry McCartney. Ejeca has released on BPitch Control, 20:20 Vision, Need Want, Poker Flat… the list goes on, and his own label Exploris has over 10 releases to date.
The stage was dressed up with intriguing jungle greenery, and with the residents having a good time on warm-up, the dancefloor of the large main room was full by the time Ejeca came on. His music these days tends to be tougher than his earlier releases, and this was reflected in his set. The two hours were filled with melodic to driving techno, and included some of his own productions. (The latest Ejeca EP, Dizorn – released earlier this year on Sasha’s Last Night On Earth label – coincided with his debut live show.) Epic tracks like Bjarki’s I Wanna Go Bang and old school classic Don’t You Want Me by Felix were also included in his set, and Ejeca kept the crowd rooted to the dancefloor throughout.
Ejeca’s next UK dates are at London’s Fabric and Manchester’s Warehouse Project, alongside Sasha. Amuzun’s next event, meanwhile, is on Fri 10 Nov with special guest Doc Daneeka. Amuzon wants to shake up Swansea – let’s hope it does.
