ME LOST ME
RPG (Upset The Rhythm)
Me Lost Me’s third full album RPG uncompromisingly breaks the boundaries of genre and tradition through its illustrations of time, environment, reality, unity and even video games. Fusing elements of jazz, folk and electronica, the result could convincingly score an eerie 21st-century dystopia. While RPG doesn’t make for a casual listen, its demand for undivided attention is justified by the immersive experience it offers through an obscured medley of past and future.
Jayne Dent, the Newcastle artist leading Me Lost Me, elegantly balances the ominous layers of clarinet and pulsating beats with her ethereal vocals. The reworking of the 13th-century Mirie It Is While Summer I Last echoes the hushed voices of the past, yet Heat! equally forces the listener to imagine environmental devastation – a darkness furthered only by the abrasive Side Quest.
Despite the juxtapositions between orchestral fluency and unpredictable rhythms, Dent provides hope in restorative closer Science And Art: two fundamental components of RPG’s earthly beauty.
