With Veganuary underway, we provide you with a plethora of destinations within Wales which offer vegan and veggie alternatives for the family favourite weekend staple: the Sunday roast dinner.
THE MOON, CARDIFF
Although known as a music venue at the heart of Womanby Street, The Moon’s vegan kitchen also spreads the message of just how good vegan food can actually be. Think Yorkshire puddings, gravy, creamy leek, cheesy broccoli, maple-roasted carrots and parsnips, roast potatoes, sausages and roasted seitan – and, if you’ve room for dessert, homemade crepes with toppings.

A 20-year-established, family-run business, the Breaktimes Cafe offers something for everyone and, although primarily a breakfast café (serving vegan black pudding, hash browns and more), will have you at ease even if you’re the vegan looking lost at the Sunday carvery. Just make sure to let them know your dietary requirements to make the most of the gravy.

THE QUEEN INN, CWMBRAN
The Queen Inn wasn’t always the vegan joint it’s come to be known as, in fact it was only this time last year the Cwmbran restaurant tried out Veganuary for the first time since its 2004 opening, turning its entire menu of traditional pub grub into plant-based alternatives. Its menu for this month includes a host of ‘st*ak’ options (the asterisks, used to denote vegan alternatives, are something of a trademark of theirs) worthy of fooling even the carnivores amongst us. A further range of land and sea alternatives include f*sh fillets and BBQ r*bs.
