Cardiff club staples CYNT are proud as punch to secure DJ HEARTSTRING’s trance-dance services
May 25 @ 22:00 – May 26 @ 04:00
This bank holiday jamboree is described in promoters CYNT’s blurb as “[their] biggest booking to date,” which seems implausible given their 15-year-plus history in the Cardiff club scene – but maybe far less so when the dust settles, who knows. Berlin’s DJ Heartstring are certainly getting talked about, with Polydor picking up a late 2023 single Heartbreak Repair System, and I fancy their music is going to become more divisive the bigger it gets.
Despite the name, DJ Heartstring are actually a duo of Leo Brede and Jonas Hellberg, with a shared aim to foreground a pop sensibility in a techno landscape often marked by businesslike bosh. Their own productions offer knowing updates on 90s Eurodance, with its female-vocalled euphoria and ultra-direct rhythms also factoring in chart hit-era trance and 90s hard house: they seem to be running with the term ‘trance dance music’, whose slightly imperfect English just underlines the intense Europeanness of all this. Their Cardiff debut will feature support from Kilig and CYNT residents.
