TRUTH OR DARE ***
Dir: Jeff Wadlow (12A, 90 mins)
Released on Friday 13, this is smash-and-grab horror-lite for those of you who enjoyed the high-concept Happy Death Day – that is, teens getting killed because of something that doesn’t quite make sense. The game of Truth or Dare takes a nasty turn when those who are lying or refuse to do a dare are bumped off by a supernatural force. A mixture of It Follows and Final Destination follows as the gang of youngsters try and find the source of their cursed game, leading them to Mexico. It’s a nifty premise, backed up by invention and some very creepy prosthetic smiles, as Lucy Hale and her gang have to endure ever more horrid truths or dares or they die. There’s death by pencil, pool ball and hands going under the hammer. Slickly-made schlock.
