TREMOR
Sherman Theatre, Cardiff
Thurs 12 Apr-Sat 5 May
“We got dark, Sophie. Things got dark, and I… I’m better now. I’m in a better place”.
Brad Birch’s latest play Tremor follows two characters, Tom (Paul Rattray) and Sophie (Lisa Diveney), and puts their relationship under the microscope since it deteriorated after a tragedy. Following their story four years on, Tremor delves into the complexities of trauma, division and tension in our modern-day world.
Coming to the Sherman Theatre, which has a reputation for producing and providing a platform for excellent drama, we can be assured Tremor will follow suit. With only two characters in Tremor, expect a deep and intimate insight into their relationship. A small cast will inevitably allow the play to strip away aspects it doesn’t want us to see; what’s left is laid bare, and open for our dissection.
New associate director David Mercatali will make his Sherman Theatre debut with Tremor. Multi-award winning and critically acclaimed, he will no doubt pump exuberance and power into the production. Mercatali said “Tremor is a timely and important play from a major Welsh playwright”.
Welsh playwright and writer Birch, a recipient of the Harold Pinter Commission, will provide an absorbing evening ripe with sociopolitical critique at the Sherman Theatre this spring. (CA)
