UPDATE: Performances of this show were originally listed for January. They now have been postponed to February.

The National Theatre’s internationally acclaimed production of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time is coming to the New Theatre in Cardiff this February, part of a new 10th-anniversary tour of the UK and Ireland. Based on the novel by Mark Haddon, which is a murder mystery like no other, this play won seven Olivier Awards and five Tony Awards, including Best Play. It’s been adapted by two-time Olivier-winning playwright Simon Stephens and directed by Olivier and Tony-winning director Marianne Elliott.

RELATED: ‘Last year it was a case of “oh no you won’t” for pantos, but this year they will go ahead! And Jamie Rees has combed the country for the best.’

The play begins with the main character Christopher, a boy of 15, standing beside his neighbours’ dead dog, which has been speared with a garden fork. Christopher then turns detective, determined to solve the curious incident of the title: blessed with an amazing brain, he excels at maths yet is ill-equipped to interpret everyday life and has never been past the end of his street.

With incredible visual and lighting effects deployed, to show Christopher’s unique mind as his life is turned upside down, The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time is a production not to be missed.

New Theatre, Cardiff, Tues 1 Feb – Sat 5 Feb

Tickets: £18-£47.50. Info here.

words SARAH BOWDIDGE

KEEP READING: ‘Though the story of The Nutcracker – playing at St. David’s Hall, Cardiff over Christmas – is slight, this ballet is eternally endearing.’
