Dir: Oliver Parker (12A, 96 mins)
Rob Brydon heads up this Full Monty-esque tale of a middle-aged man, lost and adrift in life who finds meaning by joining a male synchronised swimming team. Brydon is out to win his wife (played by Jane Horrocks) back after a mid-life malaise. He joins a local team peopled by the likes of stalwart Brit actors Rupert Graves, Daniel Mays, Jim Carter, Adeel Akhtar and Thomas Turgoose. Each have their own reasons for donning the speedos whilst they are being whipped into shape by coach Charlotte Riley to compete in the world championships in Milan. They will have to master various sychronised swimming staples – the pyramid, the spinning circle and the flower, and the talented cast do it with affably engaging fun. Based on a documentary from Sweden, Swimming With Men gently delivers. Get your nose plugs and swimming caps out. KS.
