SWANSEA ASTRONOMICAL STARGAZING SOCIETY | EVENT PREVIEW
If the impossibly comforting Mancunian drawl of Brian Cox has lured you into the world of stargazing through his Stargazing Live program, then come along to the Star Party hosted by the Swansea Astronomical Society in the beautiful National Botanic Garden next Friday, where you will be able to have a go at spotting such sights as the Andromeda Nebula for yourself under the guidance of the society’s experts, depending on the sky conditions of course.
Even if the weather is abysmal, a range of displays and talks on ‘The Development of Telescopes’ and ‘Our Wonderful Universe’ will be available, and there will be a chance to learn about the new comet Ison, which is being billed as ‘The Comet Of The Century’. Telescope clinics will also be set up at the event, where SAS member Colin Miles (whether he’s a member of the Swansea Astronomical Society or Special Air Service I can only guess) invites you to bring your telescope if you are having problems, and talk to the experts about it. Everything will be based in the Great Glasshouse, where refreshments will be available.
