Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff
Fri 8 July – Sun 18 September
Experimental art is, for better or worse, full of unique creations. They can at times change perceptions of what can be regarded as ‘normal’ in wonderful ways. Coming to Chapter is Sticky Intimacy, a cross generational project that hosts an abundance of conceptual works, where the artists focus on a common theme of making the work absolutely un-monumental, while using a wide range of different materials.
Artists Katie Cuddon, Emma Hart and Nicholas Pope have explored the relationship between different materials and how they can be used in creating artwork. Materials such as glass, clay and wood have produced thematic art reflecting the life experiences and emotions of the creators. No matter how awkward, wonky or unclear the symmetry may be, the ongoing link is that all the pieces are handmade.
Cuddon touches upon the themes of shame, failure and sexuality whereas Hart focuses on the anxieties faced in everyday life. The exhibit is a chance to open your mind to everyday occurrences that others face, and how experiences resonate deeply within one’s thoughts, and how they can play with rooted emotions.
This thought provoking exhibit has been curated by Hannah Firth, and has also been developed in partnership with the National Gallery for Contemporary Art.
