Gwyn Hall, Neath
Tues 8 – Sat 12 Nov
Filled with puerile jokes, crudeness and caricatures to boot, Spamalot, lovingly ripped off from Monty Python’s cult comedy classic The Holy Grail, is stuffed with upbeat numbers and gaffs that the whole audience can get involved with. There is no doubt that a (k)night of laughter and merriment is in store in this production by the award winning Neath AOS.
Joyous chorus numbers in the best musical theatre tradition, the opportunity for actors to indulge in hamming it up in a spectacular fashion, as well as beloved songs and comedy whimsy produces a feel-good show that you can’t help but enjoy.
To describe the plot would be futile as it is pretty flimsy in truth, following the adventurers of King Arthur and his motley crew of knights of the round table in their search for the holy grail. This search takes in a Finnish fisch schlapping dance, the plague, can-can dancers and of course a shrubbery.
While Spamalot is most memorable for the comedy its songs are equally strong. The anthem Always Look on the Bright Side of Life sung by the entire cast at the end is bound to leave you with the feel-good factor.
