Winner of the Jury Prize and other international awards, Past Half Remembered promises to be a spellbinding slice of storytelling theatre, full of both music and mayhem.
Director Alex Byrne transports the audience on a journey through the colourful life of 100-year-old Russian woman Maria Michaliovna. Maria looks back on her life, remembering in particular her husband Noam, as well as a battle between the Reds and the Whites, a German invasion and a big wedding. Created one summer in Mseno, a small village in the Czech Republic, Past Half Remembered is set during the Soviet era and focuses on love, loss, calamity and hope. Multiple languages feature throughout the piece, which Alex has described to The Public Reviews as being very much “a reality of the contemporary world”.
The exceptionally talented six-person cast from award-winning company New International Encounter, also incorporates live music and physical theatre into their performance, something which they have successfully done in over 27 countries.
Described by the Guardian as “fragile, slightly mad and tinged with sadness”, Past Half Remembered has already proven to be a smash hit success in Edinburgh, London and New York and is now back by popular demand.
