This is peak storm season, so it’s appropriate that Nell Bryden is blowing into our neck of the woods this month. If anyone is a whirlwind of thought, sound, vision, energy, heart, passion and soul, it’s her. She’ll be performing songs off of her eighth album, Bloom, which will be out at the beginning of the year. Bryden’s no stranger here: she played to a full house at Cardiff’s Globe venue previously and shook the rafters.
The singer-songwriter has packed a lot of living into her life, enough for someone twice her age.
She’s a native New Yorker, born to a professional soprano mother and artist father. By age seven, she could already play the violin, piano and cello. At first Bryden thought she’d be a classical musician, then realised she really wanted to sing at 18. And sing she can, going from opera, jazz, country, blues, folk, soul, rock – just about any style.
She’s recorded, travelled the world, toured, witnessed 9/11, come to terms with a medical condition that may be permanent, gotten married and had a baby. Bryden’s also a successful Radio 2 presenter, hosting her own New York Hour and four-part Nell’s Angels show. Come and witness this dynamo who’ll also be performing her latest album, Wayfarer (which celebrates life, love and happiness) and new single What Is It You Want. Nell Bryden – a force of nature.
