Mischief Movie Night
The Mischief Theatre company return to Cardiff for another run of shows promising calamity, insane capers, and much hilarity after The Play That Goes Wrong showed at the theatre in May.
The company have gone from strength to strength after their first West End success The Play That Goes Wrong won them their first Olivier in 2015, securing an extended run on the West End, countless international productions, and a current stint on Broadway. Collaborations with the BBC have since brought audiences the witty and inventive Christmas specials Peter Pan Goes Wrong and A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong in 2016 and 2017 respectively, featuring a mix of the original cast and their much-loved characters alongside new additions, such as cameos by screen legends David Suchet and Dianna Rigg. The fierce popularity of the shows have afforded the writers and original cast the chance to move on to new projects, safe in the knowledge their first success will live on strong. The Comedy About A Bank Robbery, their 2016 showfeaturing the original cast was the next to take the West End by storm; the touring cast are bringing it to Cardiff in October to complete the hat-trick of Mischief shows playing at the New Theatre this year.
Artistic director Henry Lewis’ latest creation is entirely dependent on you, the audience. The cast are at your mercy, using their quick wit, creativity and sheer talent to create a performance based on the scenario you create for them in that moment. Their objective is to create a feature-length film based on the genre, location and title provided to them by their audience completely on the spot, and getting you to laugh while they’re at it, kind of like an extended version of Whose Line Is It Anyway? No small feat, but the seasoned original cast members we know so well have proved themselves more than capable of the job so many times before.
Complete with a custom-made live score, fast forwards and rewinds just like a real film, this show has already received much critical acclaim. No two nights are ever the same – what will they conjure up in Cardiff?
