MEZZA HOUSE | FOOD REVIEW
175 City Road, Cardiff. 07792 380775
I live not far from the culturally diverse cuisine of City Road and I can say, with my hand on my heart, that I have been to almost all of the Middle Eastern eateries that line the street. I absolutely love all the different delicious dishes on offer and I have been dreaming of my foodies tour of the Middle East for many years now, but wandering into Lebanese restaurant Mezza House I have found my new local favourite.
The three of us sat down and gazed over the menu. We decided to ease in with a simple starter of hummus and bread (£2.75) – the hummus was the best I’ve ever tasted. Served with cucumber and mint leaves, and topped with olive, it was smooth and flavoursome and I could have easily eaten a whole bowl of it on its own.
My partner and I had brought big appetites with us, so for our main we went for the grill, while our friend went for the tabbouleh (£3.50) – which was served in a lettuce orb and was a tasty and refreshing choice.
The chicken kafta (£5.50) and mix grill (£7.50) both came with a delicious bed of yellow rice and salad. The meat was tender, juicy and perfectly spiced and was paired perfectly with the more subtle tasting rice. All of this was a bargain as well, I can’t recall the exact amount but the whole meal came to little over £20 – for three people!
What really made our evening, however, was the owner who took incredible care of us. When my friend ordered a mango smoothie, and he accidentally made too much, he gave my partner and I a free glass of the juice as well. He also gave us tea refills and fresh food on the house.
