LEMAR
Page In My Heart (AMP)
With Page In My Heart, soul swooner Lemar goes waaay back in the time machine. The record, his first album of original material in 11 years, is half party time and half slower, confessional-driven tunes – including the lovely, electrobeat title track, which opens the record, and a closing ballad with gorgeous keyboards. The three-time MOBO and two-time BRIT winner celebrates two decades in the business; this gives him more reason to be proud.
Lionel Richie fans will love the 80s-inspired Future Love single, guaranteed to burn up the dancefloor with its thumping bassline, and the easy-going The Weekend. Lemar channels the Bee Gees – complete with falsetto – on a disco-licious Glorious!, featuring spicy vocals from singer-songwriter Jessica Agombar. Lemar is perhaps at his best when he experiments: Free Your Mind is one of the best songs Funkadelic never wrote, Turn My Love is a synth-led pop/reggae joy and I Been highlights Lemar’s sonorous range, supplemented by a searing guitar througout.
